The Story Behind the Pot
Three hunters fell ill in the mountains, their efforts fruitless. Remembering the wisdom of their elders, they turned to a ceremonial pot — filled with corn and sacred fetishes — and offered earnest prayers. On the fourth day, their fortune turned. They found their quarry, made a stew from the corn within the bowl, and were not only nourished but healed.
This story, passed down by a Native American elder, lives within every fetish pot. The inside becomes the home of sacred fetishes — a place for corn meal offerings to sustain them. Guardian figures inhabit the outside, each with a "peek hole" to watch over what lies within. Together, they are said to bring protection and good fortune from the four directions of Mother Earth.
