Parasite wood is the result of a parasitic, mushroom-like growth that embeds itself into the bark of a Chinaberry tree and gets its nourishment from the tree’s sap. These unique structures are sometimes called “wood roses” and are found on the island of Bali. The extremely hard, dense growths don’t decay even when the host tree dies and starts to decay. Balinese artisans create beautiful, one-of-a-kind, carvings from the parasite wood. Each piece is unique, so the pictures below are representative of the pieces we carry.
